New Officials Information

The Southeastern Athletic Officials Association provides officials for school sports programs throughout Southeastern North Carolina. We are constantly seeking individuals who have high character and integrity, a love for the game and a willingness to work with others. It takes a special person to be able to control their emotions, perform professionally and maintain order, when all about them have lost their composure and chaos abounds.

Officiating requires hours of preparation, study and training. Officials are expected to be perfect every night. We are under appreciated by many who don't understand the commitment required to perform at such high level. However, it is still a very rewarding and fun avocation. Most importantly, we do it for the kids.

If you are interested in joining the SAOA and becoming an official, follow the instructions below. You will also find information about specific sports by clicking on the Sports links above. A Regional Supervisor Of Officials assigns officials to officiate games for each particular sport. Each sports sub-site has the Regional Supervisor's name and contact information listed within the section. If you have any questions about a particular sport, just contact the Regional Supervisor for that sport.

Here's what you need to do to get started.

6) Register with the NCHSAA

If you have never registered with the NCHSAA, you will need to create an account on the NCHSAA website. Once you are on the site, click "Officiating", then click "Registration" at the left side of the screen. The link will be at the top of the page. Click "Register A New Account". Fill out the registration form and click the "Complete Signup" button at the bottom of the page.

On the next page click the "Registration" button at the top of the screen. Place a check in the box next to the sports you would like to officiate and make sure you select the correct Regional Supervisor Of Officials from the list below in the drop down box for your booking association. They will be listed under "Southeastern".

The NCHSAA registration fees vary from sport to sport and there is a required $31.00 insurance fee required for all officials. You may pay these fees online with a credit card or you can mail the NCHSAA a check to the address given on their website. If the NCHSAA has not received your check within 14 days of registration, it is subject to cancellation.

Important: If you plan on registering for multiple sports now you must pay for all sports at the time you register. If you have unpaid fees the NCHSAA will make you ineligible to receive assignments until the remaining balance is paid. Be sure to check the NCHSAA website for registration deadlines for the sports you are interested in officiating.

7) Signing into The ArbiterSports website

NCHSAA Regional Supervisors Of Officials use ArbiterSports assigning software. Your supervisor will need a valid email address so that they can add you to their Arbiter account. Once the supervisor does this you will receive a welcome email with instructions on how to proceed.

Click the links below to view the powerpoint to help you become familiar with how to use The Arbiter. You will need Adobe Reader or the Powerpoint Viewer on your computer. You can dowload both of these for FREE. We have links to this software on our downloads page.
